I must say that I’m happy for the month of May! Our renovation is (I promise) wrapping up! They deliver our electric mirrors for the bathroom today, the plantation shutters were installed on Tuesday, the doorknobs are finally going to be put on and that should be it as far as the practical.
When it comes to decor, I’m waiting on wallpaper for my closet ceiling and also waiting on the window treatments for the bedroom. I’m looking at art and considering rugs for the bathroom. The decor is the fun part and what I’ve been waiting for all these months. The plan is to spend our first night in the bedroom on Friday and believe me, it’s been a long time coming!
I’m trying to be very intentional about the products I move into the bathroom and how I organize it all. I purchased these under counter storage organizers for the products that are too tall to go into drawers. I’ve also bought all new towels (also got a few green ones to mix in) and a garden stool to go beside the bathtub.
One of the reasons I love May is that my birthday is in May and the very next Sunday is always Mother’s Day! This year, my two younger daughters can’t make it home, but Baldy and I will go out to brunch with our oldest daughter Lauren and and her family! I’ve decided to wear this new dress that I got from Jude Connally! I love a reason to get dressed up and this dress is just perfect for Mother’s Day!
And, speaking of my birthday…Baldy was on point with the gifts! I had been wanting some new gold sandals and he got me these beautiful ones, along with this Sig Bergamon decor book, and this new fragrance from Jo Malone! I felt so spoiled. My daughter Lauren gave me this fragrance from Victoria Beckham that I had been wanting (I’m going to smell delightful), and a beautiful cookbook called French at Heart to add to my collection! It was such a lovely birthday and other than spending time with my family, my favorite part was the lemon pound cake we had for dessert…my favorite!
Last year, I felt like a world traveler by the end of May, but this year, I just want to stay here and enjoy our home and putter in the yard. There truly is a season for everything and this year, the season is home!
I’m am headed to my home away from home…Bald Head Island on May 19 for a week of sun and rest. It’s just me and the dogs and I’m looking forward to long walks on the beach and sleeping (am I boring haha?). Bald Head is a very casual place, but I still like to look nice so aside from my Lake Pajamas (that I’ll probably be wearing until at least 11 am everyday, I’m packing this look from Lysse New York in case I take myself out to dinner. The silk pants are made for travel and come with their own little travel bag! They are perfect with a knit tank, or this sparkly top.
Other than those few dressy items, I’m packing this outfit, my favorite new swimsuit from Boston Proper, these new denim shorts that I just ordered, my Amazon sandals (also just got these cute ones!), a few tank tops and short sleeve shirts and that’s about it!
For the rest of May…I’m planning to be at the Farmer’s Market as often as possible and start cooking with some of the fresh produce that’ll be coming in! I’ll be sharing a pasta salad recipe later in the week (likely over the weekend), and I’m doing a video today with the recipe for Kentucky Hot Browns. I know those seem like a Kentucky Derby recipe and they are traditionally served at the Kentucky Derby, but honestly, they’re about the best little things I’ve ever put in my mouth and I’m craving them so…I’ll post that recipe tomorrow or Friday! You’ll want to make them all summer long! I don’t make desserts often, but I have a recipe coming that I think you’ll absolutely love! Stay tuned for some May goodness!
What are you doing this month? Leave a comment and let me know!
Thanks so much for reading today!
